As The Threadneedle Prize exhibition draws to a close at the
Mall Galleries, the selectors David Rayson, Micheal Sandle RA and Dr Xavier Bray
select Patricia Cain’s piece from the shortlist of seven works.
Patricia Cain will receive the £25,000 Threadneedle Prize for
her piece, Building the
Riverside Museum, with artist duo Boyd & Evans receiving £10,000
for the Visitors’ Choice Award for their piece, Clee
Hill 2009.
Of the 2,185 original submissions, only 46 were chosen by
the selectors to appear in the exhibition, which aims to present a coherent
portrayal of the contemporary world, whilst championing fresh pieces of
figurative art.
A new event, Critics’ view, saw personalities such as Jon
Snow and Jeremy Paxman select a piece from the selection and explain the reason
for their choice to an open audience.
The exhibition at Mall Galleries, The Mall, London is due to
close on the 18th September. Admission £2.50, Concessions £1.50
(Free to Friends of the FBA, Art Fund Members, Westminister Res-card holders
and Under 16’s).
