Blaser
Blaser straight pulls are versatile and usually light. They are popular with people who want to keep kit to a minimum. You can accommodate .222 to a .416 Remington on the same cleverly conceived “action” (bolt and shroud lock directly into the barrel). There is even a rimfire conversion. In most cases, to change calibre you have to change barrel, bolt and magazine. Trigger pulls are fixed at 750g but are much better than average. Take your pick of synthetic or wooden stocks. Barrels and chambers are hammer forged. Steel parts are plasma nitrated to resist corrosion. On current guns you load from the top, but by the time you read this, there will be a new model with a detachable magazine. Other notable features include a clever safety system allowing the gun to be carried uncocked but at the ready. The R93 rifle is ideal for the woods. From £1,970.
